Position: Defensible Space Inspector
Term: Seasonal, Mid-March to November dependent on funding
Pay Scale: $12 – 16 per hour

Lake Valley Fire Protection District’s Fire and Fuels Division is currently seeking an energetic entry-level or experienced professional to perform defensible space inspections for private property owners. Defensible Space Inspectors apply basic fire behavior and forestry principles to educate residents on how to comply with state code PRC4291 and local fire safety standards. An additional responsibility includes working with the Fire and Fuels Coordinator on the development and layout of fuel reduction projects on private and state lands. The ideal candidate is an entry-level professional with an educational background, training or experience in fire science, forestry, arboriculture, or closely related natural resource field. Inspectors display and enjoy professionalism, independent judgment, decision-making, public interaction, self-motivation, flexibility, and a team mentality.
