The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulations of weeds and yard debris.  In order to make this a safe endeavor for those involved, please adhere to the following:

  • A Residential Burn Permit must be obtained from the Lake Valley Fire Protection District at Lake Valley Fire Station 7 or Lake Valley Fire station 6.  Additionally, authorization to burn must be obtained each day of the planned burn by calling 1-888-332-2876.

  • Burn only between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

  • Cease burning if wind is above 5 mph.

  • Burn pile must be no more than 4 feet in diameter.

  • Burn pile must be 10 feet away from any structure or other flammable materials and vegetation.

  • A garden hose and shovel or other approved extinguishing equipment must be on site and available at all times.

  • Fire must be attended by an adult at all times until the fire is dead out.

  • Burning of yard waste only (e.g., weeds, limbs, leaves, etc.).

  • No burning shall be undertaken unless weather conditions (particularly wind) are such that burning can be considered safe

Failure to abide by these regulations is a violation of California State Law and may result in a criminal citation.  Permit holder assumes all liability resulting from the conduct of open burning to include any suppression costs resulting from the burning activity.
